NEED CYBER ESSENTIALS PLUS?

CE Plus adds an independent technical audit on top of the self-assessment - an IASME-approved assessor remotely tests your live systems to verify your controls are actually working. CE OR CE PLUS - WHICH DO YOU NEED?

Many organisations searching for CE pricing are still deciding which level to get. Use this to decide:

• Your contract says "Cyber Essentials" - standard CE is sufficient
• Your contract says "Cyber Essentials Plus" or "independent technical audit" - CE Plus is required

ANNUAL RENEWAL: WHAT DOES CE COST EACH YEAR?

The renewal fee is the same as the initial certification fee. There is no reduced renewal rate. Budget for Cyber Essentials as an annual recurring cost. What typically improves from year two onwards is preparation time - once your controls are embedded, the self-assessment runs faster. But the certification fee stays the same.

HOW LONG DOES CYBER ESSENTIALS TAKE?

Once your controls are in place, the process moves quickly. After you submit, assessments are typically completed within 1-2 business days. The time before submission varies - organisations with controls already in place can be ready in days, while those needing to close gaps first may take a few weeks. WHAT SHOULD YOU WATCH OUT FOR?

For CE Plus specifically, note that if issues are found during the audit you have 30 days from the assessment start date to remediate - and this sits within the 90-day window from your CE basic certification date. If either window expires before CE Plus is passed, you must re-certify at CE basic level before restarting, which adds to your overall cost
• Vague scoping: Make sure the quote is for your actual environment - not a stripped-back scope that excludes cloud services or mobile devices you rely on
• Unnecessary upselling: You do not need to buy consultancy, training, or additional products to get certified. Certification is straightforward if your controls are in place
